a few weeks ago i mentioned i was going to try reading a book. it took me this long, but hey, finally got it read! better than never, i suppose. i didn't particularly like or dislike it, so i'm unlikely to read the sequel, but at least it got me reading again. now i've just got to decide what to read next.

i've had a little extra free time to play trails SC after i had some raid nights cancelled, so i'm further along in chapter 3 now. it took a while, but plot is happening and i'm really enjoying it, to the point that i'm just going to play that tonight instead of grinding in ff14 for once :') baby steps.

physical therapy is going well and there's been a small but noticeable difference. here's hoping it helps. i did get a knee brace from the doctor last week, so i've been wearing that on and off.

haven't been able to change tracks on what i've been writing, unfortunately, but i've written 50k for the year as of today. i'm really glad i've been able to write again this consistently, i missed it a lot. i'm continuing to make posts about it on my writing journal, diali.

oh, i finally got around to adding new icons! i need to find more clive icons, tbh. every time i think about ff16 i like clive more. every now and then i scroll through his tag on tumblr and reblog a dozen posts and come to terms with the fact that there's probably a clive site in my future. i haven't been able to work on website stuff lately but i'm hoping to pick it back up some this week.

i think that's it for this week. tbh last week was super busy for me personally so i'm glad things will be calmer this week.

i'm torn on whether to go to crossbell or cold steel after i finish all three sky games. on the one hand i think it would be best to play through the games in release order, and from what i can tell, the crossbell games are very similar to sky in presentation and style. that said, i've read that crossbell should be played after cold steel 1 and 2 so i'm undecided. regardless i intend to pick up at least one of them in the upcoming steam sale, assuming they go on sale. (please go on sale.) it's been really nice to play this series on steamdeck; despite being listed as unsupported on steam, FC and SC have run perfectly and have full controller support.

i'll likely have more free time tomorrow to play (raid unexpectedly got cancelled) so i'm looking forward to more!

final fantasy tactics is finally getting remastered THIS IS NOT A DRILL

i am so fucking excited. i have played tactics once, at the formative age of like, nineteen or twenty, and have not played it since because the best version was on the goddamn playstation portable and i literally can't play mine anymore due to battery bloat.

even so, tactics is one of my all-time favorite games. i most recently wrote about it for my final fantasy series fansite but thet tl;dr is that tactics tells a fantastic political story about right, wrong, and the meaning of justice. matsuno's comment on the remaster really hones in on why it's like that, in a way that was a lightbulb moment for me. i'm not surprised i didn't pick up on it when i was a kid in college, but looking back now: yeah, no wonder tactics is exactly like that. (vagrant story too, tbh. matsuno's had some stuff to say.)

anyway, i am fucking thrilled. and it's voice acted now, with... additions to the plot?! i guess we'll see how that goes. the complete inclusion of the original's gameplay + the war of the lion translation is a welcome yet unexpected boon. it'll be nice to have difficulty settings too; tactics is a game that really rewards strategic thinking, and there have long been romhacks to add even more depth.

the only problem is... trails in the sky FC remake is also slated for fall. how the fuck am i supposed to balance both of them 😭

late post (tho still day of) because i've had a busy day, oops.

not a whole lot this week. physical therapy has obviously been taking up some time, but it's going okay. as usual, the first session was the worst, and it always gets easier after that, so i'm hopeful.

in raiding news, savage is still going dreadfully and criterion is going swimmingly (cleared aloalo yesterday, starting aloalo savage prog today). lala is still the hardest boss in the game to me. literally all the ultimates i've done had easier mechanics than fucking spinny show hole.

not as much progress playing trails sc as i would have liked due to raiding commitments, but i'm still really enjoying it when i do have time to dive in. at times however it's a little too referential of the previous game and i'm like, bro i played that a year ago i do not remember EVERY npc from EVERY sidequest... oh well.
